looking for ...

Looking for Space by John Denver

On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way.
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away.
When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still.
I'm afraid cause I think they always will.
And I'm looking for space and to find out who I am, and I'm looking to know and understand.
It's a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I'm almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I'm deep in despair.

All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems.
I get lost in the sadness and the screams.
Then I look in the center and suddenly everything's clear.
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams
And I'm looking for space and to find out who I am, and I'm looking to know and understand.
It's a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I'm almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I'm deep in despair.

On the road of experience, join in the living day.
If there's an answer it's just that it's just that way,
When you're looking for space and to find out who you are.
When you're looking to try and reach the stars.
It's a sweet, sweet dream, sometimes I'm almost there.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle and sometimes I'm deep in despair.

Happy go lucky

I've just come back from the cinema - seen the latest Mike's Leigh film Happy Go Lucky. A bitter-sweet comedy portraying the life of Poppy - a 30 year old London primary school teacher with a very child-like and optimistic outlook on life. I love her attitude - even though it might seem a bit carefree at times - her sincerity, energy and ability to face life challenges with humour rather than groaning are impressive.

a bit late new year Resolution ...

A poem by one of my fave poets ks.Jan Twardowski.
The English translation is by Anna Mioduchowska and Myrna Garanis.

Resolution

I resolve to work on

casting off

the bull of rhetoric

the Vaseline of stylization

gallant pauses

slick syntax

lyrical garbage

in order to kneel in winter

and bring You in an unskilled hand

the lamb of snow

I oryginał:

Postanowienie

Postanawiam pracować nad tym
żeby się pozbyć
byka retoryki
wazeliny stylizacji
galanteryjnych pauz
wypucowanej składni
lirycznego śmietnika
żeby zimą przyklęknąć
i przynieść Ci niewykwalifikowaną rękę
baranka ze śniegu

a song a day - I Did It My Way

And now, the end is near;

And so I face the final curtain.

My friend, Ill say it clear,

Ill state my case, of which Im certain.

Ive lived a life thats full.

Ive traveled each and evry highway;

And more, much more than this,

I did it my way.

Regrets, Ive had a few;

But then again, too few to mention.

I did what I had to do

And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;

Each careful step along the byway,

But more, much more than this,

I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, Im sure you knew

When I bit off more than I could chew.

But through it all, when there was doubt,

I ate it up and spit it out.

I faced it all and I stood tall;

And did it my way.

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried.

Ive had my fill; my share of losing.

And now, as tears subside,

I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;

And may I say - not in a shy way,

No, oh no not me,

I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?

If not himself, then he has naught.

To say the things he truly feels;

And not the words of one who kneels.

The record shows I took the blows -

And did it my way!

a song a day - Time After Time by Eva Cassidy

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion--
Is nothing new
Flashback--warm nights--
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after--

Sometimes you picture me--
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said--
Then you say--go slow--
I fall behind--
The second hand unwinds

Chorus:
If you're lost you can look--and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows--you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time--

Chorus:
If you're lost...
You said go slow--
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds--

Chorus:
If you're lost......Time after time
Time after time ,Time after time,Time after time

Ok by Holly Conlan

I do my best to save myself,
But I don't have time to save nobody else.
I tune out voices when they talk.
I say I care, but they do not know they walk the walk.
I got no job, I got no dream.
I'm black or white, but I can't stand the in between.

And now I'm confused on top of it all,
I was ready to lose, and ready to fall,
And something about the way that you look at me
Makes it feel okay,
Make it feel okay.

I'm self-absorbed, and I don't care.
I'm all bruised up, and I don't think that life is fair.
I build up walls no one can climb.
And I tear them down - this process takes up all my time.

And now I'm confused on top of it all,
I was ready to lose and ready to fall,
But then something about the way that you look at me
Makes it feel okay,
Make it feel okay.

La de da de da da da
Ba da ba
La de da da de da da da

And now I'm confused on top of it all,
I was ready to lose and ready to fall,
But then something about the way that you look at me
Makes it feel okay,
Make it feel okay.
Make it feel okay.
Make it feel okay.

a song a day - Cisza na Skronie by Anna Maria Jopek and Mino Cinelu

Gdy jedni modlą się o wiatr, inni modlą się o deszcz, bo ziemia schnie.
Ja czekam wciąż na spokój w nas.
Ciągle wierzę, że gdzieś tu znajdzie się
cisza na skronie,
na powieki słońce.
Kres naszych wojen, jak koniec gorączce.
I ta pewność, ta pewność, że mamy nadal czas by patrzeć prosto w oczy.

Prayer for Gaza

I've found ths beautiful prayer on Taize website today and wanted to share it with you.

Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman, of Kol HaNeshama, Jerusalem, who has visited Taizé several times, brings to our attention the following prayer which appeared in the Haaretz Newspaper.

If there has ever been a time for prayer, this is that time.

If there has ever been a place forsaken, Gaza is that place.

Lord, who is the creator of all children, hear our prayer this accursed day. God, whom we call Blessed, turn your face to these, the children of Gaza, that they may know your blessings, and your shelter, that they may know light and warmth, where there is now only blackness and smoke, and a cold which cuts and clenches the skin.

Almighty who makes exceptions, which we call miracles, make an exception of the children of Gaza. Shield them from us and from their own. Spare them. Heal them. Let them stand in safety. Deliver them from hunger and horror and fury and grief. Deliver them from us, and from their own.

Restore to them their stolen childhoods, their birthright, which is a taste of heaven.

Remind us, O Lord, of the child Ishmael, who is the father of all the children of Gaza. How the child Ishmael was without water and left for dead in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba, so robbed of all hope, that his own mother could not bear to watch his life drain away.

Be that Lord, the God of our kinsman Ishmael, who heard his cry and sent His angel to comfort his mother Hagar.

Be that Lord, who was with Ishmael that day, and all the days after. Be that God, the All-Merciful, who opened Hagar’s eyes that day, and showed her the well of water, that she could give the boy Ishmael to drink, and save his life.

Allah, whose name we call Elohim, who gives life, who knows the value and the fragility of every life, send these children your angels. Save them, the children of this place, Gaza the most beautiful, and Gaza the damned.

In this day, when the trepidation and rage and mourning that is called war, seizes our hearts and patches them in scars, we call to you, the Lord whose name is Peace:

Bless these children, and keep them from harm.

Turn Your face toward them, O Lord. Show them, as if for the first time, light and kindness, and overwhelming graciousness.

Look up at them, O Lord. Let them see your face.

And, as if for the first time, grant them peace.

More information here.

Zwróć ku nim Swoje oblicze, o Panie. Ukaż im, jakby to było pierwszy raz, światło i dobroć, i przekraczającą wszystko łaskawość.

Spójrz na nie, o Panie. Pozwól im zobaczyć Twoje oblicze.

I, jakby to było pierwszy raz, obdarz je pokojem.

a song a day - King by Tree63

We have heard the thunder
We have seen the storm
Echoes of Your kingdom coming
Rumors of our home
Where one day we will stand before You Lord
Our altogether beautiful reward

Chorus:
And we will give You glory bring You honor
King above all kings
You deserve our everything
We will lift our voices with Your praises
Jesus You are -- our King

Though now we walk in darkness
Though now we see in part
Right now we're warmed by the burning flames
Of the fire in our hearts
You've promised You would lead us to Your throne
Where we will worship You and You alone

a song a day - What a Wonderful World by Michael Buble

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
Theyre really sayin......i love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
Theyll learn much more.....than Ill never know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

a song a day - Eye in the Sky by Jonatha Brooke

Don't think sorry's easily said
Don't try turning tables instead
You've taken lots of Chances before
But I ain't gonna give any more
Don't ask me
That's how it goes
‘Cause part of me knows what You're thinkin'

Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let the fire rush to your head
I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
The sun in your Eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing

I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't Need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind
I can read your mind
I can read your mind
I can read your mind

Don't leave false Illusions behind
Don't Cry cause I ain't changing my mind
So find another fool like before
Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the Signs are deceiving

I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't Need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind
I can read your mind
I can read your mind
I can read your mind

a song a day - Breathe Me by Sia

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no one else to blame
Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
And needy
Warm me up
And breathe me
Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah, I think that I might break
I've lost myself again and I feel unsafe
Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
And needy
Warm me up
And breathe me
Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
And needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

a song a day - Gravity by Sarah Bareilles

Something always brings me back to you.
It never takes too long.
No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone.

You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and not feel your rain.

CHORUS
Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

You loved me 'cause I'm fragile.
When I thought that I was strong.
But you touch me for a little while and all my fragile strength is gone.

CHORUS
Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

I live here on my knees as I try to make you see that you're everything I think I need here on the ground.
But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go.
The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down

this is just to say ... i love poetry ;-)

Two days ago I came across this film on U tube - and I want to share it as I immediately fell in love with it, not only because it features a very handsome M.McFayden ;-) but because it's amazing how they gave new life to this classical poem, so it can speak to us, here and now and even make us smile ... and it also proves how just a little ordinary thing may become unordinary if we just try to look at it from a different perspective, if we just dare to open up and try to see ordinary miracles ...
good luck with looking for such happy moments!

here's the poem itself:

This is just to say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.

/William Carlos Williams/

and if you're interested and would like to watch more of these contemporary adaptations of poetry you can find them on this dvd called Essential Poems (To Fall In Love With) - to be bought here on Amazon.

a song a day - Et si tu n'existais pas Joe Dassin

Et Si Tu Nexistais Pas

Et si tu n'existais pas
Dis-moi pourquoi j'existerais
Pour trainer dans un monde sans toi
Sans espoir et sans regret?

Et si tu n'existais pas
J'essaierais d'inventer l'amour

Je me sentirais perdu
J'aurais besoin be toi

Et si tu n'existais pas
Dis-moi comment j'existerais
Je pourrais faire semblant d'etre moi
Mais je ne serais pas vrai

Et si tu n'existais pas
Je crois que je l'aurais trouve
Le secret de la vie, le pourquoi
Simplement pour te creer
Et pour te regarder

Et si tu n'existais pas
Dis-moi pourquoi j'existerais
Pour trainer dans un monde sans toi
Sans espoir et sans regret?

Et si tu n'existais pas
J'essaierais d'inventer l'amour

I would be happy just to hold the hands I love on this winter night with you

The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead my glass is almost empty
I read again between the lines upon the page the words of love you sent me
If I could know within my heart that you were lonely too
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love upon this winter night with you

The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim the shades of night are lifting
The morning light steals across my windowpane where webs of snow are drifting
If I could only have you near to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love and to be once again with with you
To be once again with with you

a song a day - Take My Life by Third Day

How many times have I turned away
The number is the same as the sand on the shore
But every time You've taken me back
And now I pray You do it once more.

Chorus:
Please take from me my life
When I don't have the strength
to give it away to You Jesus

How many times have I turned away
The number is the same as the stars in the sky
But every time You've taken me back
And now I pray You do it tonight.

a song a day - Strange and Beautiful by Aqualung

I've been watching your world from afar,
I've been trying to be where you are,
And I've been secretly falling apart,
I'll see.
To me, you're strange and you're beautiful,
You'd be so perfect with me but you just can't see,
You turn every head but you don't see me.

I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep and I'll put a spell on you.
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see, lyricstop
And you'll realise that you love me.

Yeah...
Yeah...

Sometimes, the last thing you want comes in first,
Sometimes, the frist thing you want never comes,
And I know, the waiting is all you can do,
Sometimes...

I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep,
I'll put a spell on you,
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see,
And you'll realise that you love me.

I'll put a spell on you,
You'll fall asleep 'cos I'll put a spell on you,
And when I wake you,
I'll be the first thing you see,
And you'll realise that you love me, yeah...

yeah...
yeah...
yeah...
yeah...

Way I am by Ingrid Michaelson

The Way I Am

If you were falling, then I would catch you

You need a light, I'd find a match

Cuz I love the way you say good morning
And you take me the way I am

If you are chilly, here take my sweater
Your head is aching; I'll make it better

Cuz I love the way you call me baby
And you take me the way I am

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair
Sew on patches to all you tear

Cuz I love you more than I could ever promise
And you take me the way I am
You take me the way I am
You take me the way I am

Word ... Love ... Life ... Light ... Aboundance

In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
/John 1:1-5/

That's a fragment of today's gospel - one of my favourite Bible verses, because it speaks in a language of simplicity and poetry about the greatest miracle - Love becoming so real that we can experience it everyday and we can enjoy the aboundance of life He brings to share with us.
Have a blessed Sunday wrapped up in His love.

Na początku było Słowo,
a Słowo było u Boga,
i Bogiem było Słowo.
Ono było na początku u Boga.
Wszystko przez Nie się stało,
a bez Niego nic się nie stało,
co się stało.
W Nim było życie,
a życie było światłością ludzi,
a światłość w ciemności świeci

Baby it's called outside ...

Because it's cold (and snowy) outside ... and because I love Harry's voice and because this song made me smile today I added it to the playlist. Enjoy!

Harry Connick Jr. and Lee Ann Womack

Baby it's called outside ...

I really can’t stay (Baby, it’s cold outside)
I’ve got to go ‘way (Baby, it’s cold outside)
The evening has been (I’ve been hopin’ that you’d drop in)
So very nice (I’ll hold your hand, they’re just like ice)

My mother will start to worry (Hey beautiful, what’s your hurry)
And father will be pacing the floor (Listen to that fireplace roar)
So really, I’d better scurry (Beautiful, please don’t hurry)
Well, maybe just a half a drink more (Put some music on while I pour)

The neighbors might think (Baby, it’s bad out there)
Say, what’s in this drink (No cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how (Your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell (I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell)

I oughtta say no, no, no sir (You mind if I move in closer)
At least I’m gonna say that I tried (And what’s the sense in hurting my pride)
I really can’t stay (Oh baby, don’t hold out)
Oh, but it’s cold outside

I simply must go (It’s cold outside)
The answer is no (Baby, it’s cold outside)
The welcome has been (So lucky that you dropped in)
So nice and warm (Look out the window at that storm)

My sister will be suspicious (Your lips look delicious)
My brother will be there at the door (I ain’t worried about you brother)
My maiden aunt’s mind is vicious (That ol’ biddy, she ain’t gonna bother me)
Well maybe just a cigarette more (You don’t need no cigarette, it’s smokin’ plenty up in here)

I’ve got to get home (Baby, you’ll freeze out there)
Say, lend me a comb (It’s up to your knees out there)
You’ve really been grand (I thrill when you touch my hand)
Oh, but don’t you see (How can you do this thing to me)

There’s bound to be talk tomorrow (Well, think of my lifelong sorrow)
At least there will be plenty implied (If you caught pneumonia and died)
I really can’t stay (Get over that hold out)
Oh, but baby it’s cold outside

Daily Practice

Today's picture from Daily Practice.

time for music

If you know me a bit you know I can't live without music, I don't have a good ear for it but I just love to listen to it. It soothes me and boosts my spirit - always! And speaking of that I'm oficially starting my new playtlist on this blog - every day I'll add a new song. Some probably you've known already from Scrapownia, but I come along some new music nearly every day so I'll feature my discoveries here. And as I believe lyrics is as important as the melody itself, so I'll try to put up here the lyrics as well.

It's really hard to decide what the first song should be ... but let's just start this off with Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan - just because I love ice cream and Sarah, and these tunes are simply lovely!

Have a nice day!

I've always loved to look for inspiration - anything that touches any of my senses : quotes, pictures, lyrics, books, music, films, art, food, home decor, poems, Bible verses, craft ideas ... , as I heart sharing encouragement and beauty and inspiration and goodness I come to find on my way. So as the New Year began I decided it's a perfect time to start this new blog to gather and share all those bits and pieces with the hope of making my and your life more joyful and of becoming more aware of the present moment and the gifts it offers.

I'm planning to post daily - sometimes a quote, sometimes a photo, sometimes a song or an interesting link ... all of these and some more.
I've put up already some categories with my fave links for you to make some easy reference, and I'll be adding them too.

Hope you like the idea and that you'll join me on this way.
I'd love to hear from you - and to learn about your own places of inspiration.

So today I leave you with all those nice links on the right and the photograph above.
It's from this site - go there and sign up and you'll receive a daily photo just into your inbox.

xoxo

Trzymajcie kciuki by się udało ;-)

ściskam ciepło w ten biały zimowy i puchowy wieczór
dobrej nocy
